The film Bioscope is set in the second decade of the 20th century. This is a story of cinema entering villages of Kerala. The film unfolds in the backdrop of CINEMA MAKING IT’S APPEARANCE IN KERALA. The protagonist of the film Diwakaran has similarities with Varunni Joseph, who was the first to screen moving images in Kerala. History says that

Varunni Joseph ran a bioscope show in 1907 at the Thrissoor Pooram. In the film, Diwakaran’s resemblance with Varunni Joseph ends there. Although Diwakaran has been characterised in this film as one who does bioscope shows, the incidents in this film are entirely fictional. Cinema – the first silent film, Vigathakumaran, 1928 - arrives in Kerala much after the start of bioscope shows.
